SKATER OF THE MONTH: Congratulations
Candeece Blaikie who is Patch Class Skater of the Month for November.
Candeece has been focussed on learning her new figures, dance and routine and has
worked hard every week with great results. Well-done Candeece!!!
COACH OF THE MONTH: Congratulations and a huge thank you to Patch
Class Supervisor, Margaret Day who is Patch Class Coach of the Month for
November. It has been no easy feat
co-ordinating all the different, figures, dances and routines that skaters are
learning for Club Champs – we all appreciate what Margaret has done. Like all
Patch Coaches Margaret donates her time to help others learn because of her
love of the sport. We thank her for all she has done for our new skaters in
2005.

KIWI SUCCESS AT WORLDS: Congratulations
to Sarah-Jane Jones who not only placed fifth in International In-line
Freeskating at World Championships in Italy (as reported in last month’s
newsletter) but also placed fourth in combined senior ladies figures and free.
Its pretty amazing that one of our own club members is one of the top skaters
in the world!!!!
PATCH CLASS
PARTY:
Don’t forget, the last Patch Class night for 2005 will be held this week -
Tuesday December 13 at 5.30pm. A chance to celebrate a great year with lots of
FUN AND GAMES. All Patch Class and Kiwi Speed Skaters are welcome. We’ll finish
with something to eat and drink. Please bring a plate and the club will supply
drinks for skaters.
CHRISTMAS NIGHT
DISCO: Don’t miss our
Christmas themed night Disco THIS SATURDAY December 17 from 8 – 10.30pm. There’ll
be disco lights, spot prizes for those in Christmas themed costume, games,
great-recorded sounds, and a skating demonstration or two. So invite your
friends and family now!!!!
Cost is $7 per
person for non-club members and a discounted rate of $5 per person for club
members. The entry charge includes skates or blades for those who need them.
All money raised will go directly to help our National skaters get to
Christchurch in January 2006.

Music
All
freeskating, CSD and precision music should have been handed in to our team manager,
Fiona Patrick by now. If you haven’t done so this is URGENT. Fiona asks that
all tapes and CDs are clearly labelled with the competitors name, artistic
number, the event the music is for and the Club name.

Civic Practice
Time has been
arranged for National Team skaters to practice on the wooden floor at Riverstone
Recreation. The date is Sunday December 18 starting at 9.30am. There are set
times for each discipline – a time table is on the notice board at the rink.
Cost is $2 per discipline.
BIRTHDAY CUP: The UHRSC
Birthday Cup is awarded to a club member who has given something to/ achieved
excellence in roller sports in the preceding year. Our current Birthday Cup
holder is Helen Wang. Nominations are now open. You’ll find the criteria
and forms on the notice board. Forms need to be returned to club Secretary,
Debs McCarthy by 5pm January 31 2006 in a sealed envelope marked “Birthday
Cup”. Start thinking about who you’d like to nominate now, because Jan 31 will
be here before we know it.
WORKING BEE: A working bee
to help get the rink ready for use next year will be held on Saturday January
14 and Sunday January 15. This will include painting figure circles and a
general tidy up. We would appreciate help from as many families as possible –
many hands makes the job quicker and much more social. For more details contact

PUBLIC SESSIONS
AND OPEN DAY: We will be running a special free public skating
session in early February to mark our 2006 start so members of the public can see
what our skaters can do. Watch the Leader for the date and more details.
FIRST PATCH
CLASS FOR 2006:
Our first Patch
Class for 2006 will be held on Tuesday night February 7 starting at 5.30pm. We
will be straight back into patch sessions, so those of you waiting to be tested
can brush up on your skills after the Christmas break.

this season’s first Summer League competition held at Massey University,
Palmerston North on November 19.

SPEED KING TOUR 2005: Speed skaters
from throughout New Zealand met in Upper Hutt over the weekend of Dec 3/4 to
compete in the Upper Hutt Roller Skating Club’s annual SK8PHOTO Speed King
Tour. The tour was raced over eight
stages at four venues, and incorporated the prestigious Cuedesign Power 500
races for Premier and Pacific grades at the final venue. Upper Hutt’s Sam
Wright, recently back from the World Speed Skating Championships in China,
fought off a strong challenge from another UHRSC skater, Antony Hazelwood,
to take the gold medals in both the Cuedesign Power 500 Pacific grade race and
in the tour’s Pacific Men’s grade.
Gold medals also went to
UHRSC’s Lewis Johnson, Michelle Koot, and Nicola Bowden who were
all skating in their first Speed King Tour.

RINK CLOSURE: The rink will
be closed for its annual maintenance and paint from Jan 1 2006 to January 22
2006. This means the last day for skating will be December 31. If you are a key
holder, please do not use the rink during the closure – there may be wet
paint!!!!!
The rink will be open for
use from January 22. Please remember to check the bookings sheet before you
practice as arrangements have already been made for some private bookings
during the day.

We are lucky to have such
an active club or fantastic members, great practice facilities and a dedicated
group of people who perform many functions throughout the year to make the club

hopefully only to be bettered by 2006.
