FEBRUARY 2003

EDITOR’S NOTE:  It’s hard not to comment on the new floor and all the work that has gone into the building over the last couple of months. HUMUNGOUS thanks to all those that have given their time to make it all happen. The thing we have to do now is maintain it. The flooring consultant we employed could not stress the importance of cleaning the floor on a regular basis. This means that we need to clean the floor everyday before skating. If you are the first to open up the rink for that day, please ensure you sweep the floor down prior to skating and to record it on the notice board. Many thanks in anticipation.

NEW MEMBERS:  Welcome to Savannah Calton.

ADULT CLASSES:  Can you spend some time helping with the Adult class on Monday Nights. We have a growing number of adults wanting to learn on both quads and in-lines. If you can help then please talk to Helen or Bruce.

McLay’s Meats: for providing sausages for Club Champs.

Impact Print: for a great deal on screen printing of the Nationals Tee-shirts.

Upper Hutt Timber Traders: for good deals on the supplies for the working bees.

From a funding perspective:

Pelorus Trust (Lonely Goat Herd) for assistance with the team uniforms for Nationals.

Lotteries Commission for assistance with funding for the new floor.

CLUB CHAMPS AND NATIONALS:  Well done to all those who competed in the Club Champs and the Nationals. The results have been posted on the notice board and won’t be included in this newsletter. If you would like a copy then please see Ross or Bruce.

MEDAL TESTING: Just a note to all coaches to inform you the Club will be holding medal testing on 29/30 March and again on 7th September. Coaches please keep these dates in mind when coaching so skaters have the correct medals required for Nationals.

NATIONALS UNIFORMS: Can all the artistic skaters please return there track pants and S-cubed leotards to either Helen or Ross please.

BIRTHDAY CUP: The Upper Hutt Roller skating club’s birthday cup will be presented at 6:00pm on Tuesday 25th February.

PHOTO BOARDS: You will notice some lovely new photo boards that have been erected by Dave Archbold. These are to be used to show photos of our past and present international representative skaters. We need a photo, a year, location and list of events skated in, e.g. 2002 Senior Oceania’s, Nelson.

So far we have photos of Brent Millar, Anthony Nalder and Richard Burke. We would like photos and information of the following skaters:

AJ Picard, Kirsty Picard, Nick Thom, Alex Wilton, Imelda Hailes, Crystal Jones, Amber O’Fee, Allan Wood, Nicky Steele, Alistair Merrifield (and any others who you can think that represented our club internationally that is not on this list… please let Karen know.)

The final photos will approx 12 x 15 cm but we can scan an existing photo and return it to you. Please give the photos and details to any committee member to pass on to Karen as soon as possible.
